Committees 

Joining a chamber committee provides members with the opportunity to get involved in the local community, influence chamber positions, and meet other business leaders. The time you invest also gives you the most rewarding networking opportunities. Committee membership is open to all chamber members and their employees. Committees meet at the Chamber offices at 1234 6th Street, Suite 100 in Santa Monica, unless otherwise noted. Click on our events calendar to find out when each committee meets.

Committee Chairs: Gary Loeb (Chezgal Merchandise Creations) and Evan Pozarny (Muselli Commercial Realtors)

The Ambassadors Committee provides critical membership liaison services and serves as the chamber's "hospitality corps" of active Chamber business leaders. This vital Santa Monica Chamber committee is responsible for assisting with the following activities: Business @ Sunset Mixers, New Member Breakfasts, Ambassadors Speaker Series, Speed Networking, New Member Mentor Program, and Membership Retention Services.

Education Committee
Committee Chair: Linda Tisherman (Staff Support Inc., Human Asset Solutions Partner)
The Education Committee supports excellence in education and promotes meaningful business/education relationships with public and private schools. The committee plans the Education Celebration each year, an event welcoming the new teachers and administrators in all Santa Monica area schools. The committee launched a new mentoring and internship program this year, connecting students with employment experience in Santa Monica's main industry sectors.

Environmental Affairs Committee
Committee Chairs: Mark Olson (Southern CA Edison)
Promotes an environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable community through innovative partnerships with the City of Santa Monica, Sustainable Works and other local environmental leaders. The committee helps plan the annual Sustainable Quality Awards, which recognizes local businesses for "going green" and promotes sustainable business practices through the Business Greening and Business Certification programs.

Government Affairs Committee
Committee Chairs: Nat Trives (New Visions Foundation)

With the Mission to "monitor and recommend positions to the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors on issues impacting the business community and/or the general membership," the Chamber's Government Affairs Committee:

  • Proactively involves participation from representatives of all levels of government;
  • Involves interested Chamber members
  • Brings issues forward for review and sends them on to the Board for consideration and action.

Health Committee
Committee Chairs: Gordana Vokotich (SCAN Health Plan)
This commitee coordinates the annual Wellness & Safety Festival in April on the Third Street Promenade and arranges for health-related seminars at the chamber. The committee also organizes "To Your Health" programs that allows chamber members in the healthcare industry to give health-related talks at local businesses.

Homeless Committee
Committee Chair: TBD
This committee is working with the City, social service providers, and area chambers to find solutions to homelessness. The committee has started a public education campaign and an internship program to help businesses employ some homeless. Our goal is to give businesses and their customers the tools they need to deal with homelessness, and to resolve this important issue by transitioning people out of homelessness.

Land Use Committee
Committee Chairs: Chris Harding (Harding Larmore Mullen Jakle Kutcher & Kozal) and David Hibbert (David Forbes Hibbert, AIA)
This committee focuses on many of the regulatory and other issues that affect the mechanics of opening and operating a business in Santa Monica. Permitting, zoning, parking, access and change of use regulations are all topics of potential discussion and action within this committee. The committee is currently monitoring changes to the City's Land Use and Circulation Elements. This committee strives to make the process of doing business in Santa Monica fair and reasonable.
Professionals Emerging as Business Leaders
Committee Chairs: Lisa Glasser (Rewards Network) and Rosalind Napoli (Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel)

The Professionals Emerging as Business Leaders Committee is a dynamic group of forward-thinking young professionals within the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce. Members of the committee hold management or executive level positions in various industries including Hospitality, Retail, Real Estate, City Management and Health Care. The committee is dedicated to bringing new resources to the chamber and the community at large.

From new mixer formats to seminars on the latest technologies and media, the Emerging Leaders will nhighlight the latest technology developments available to the local businesses marketplace and bring new ideas and resources to the Chamber of Commerce.

Taste of Santa Monica
Committee Chairs: Erin Deviny (Bubba Gump) and Kevin McVearry
This task force is responsible for planning the Taste of Santa Monica event held each September. This event showcases the area's restaurants and related businesses to the larger Los Angeles community. The weekend event combines food from the area's best restaurants, cooking demonstrations, children's activities, and a program to benefit a different local nonprofit each year.
