Soka Gakkai International-USA
606 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90401
The 2014 State of the City brought together the Santa Monica business and resident community with city government leaders to hear the annual economic report and learn about new initiatives impacting our city. This year's events focused on “Global Visionaries and Local Leaders Building 21st Century Cities” while giving attendees an inside look at Cirque Du Soleil’s Grand Chapiteau (big top).
Each year a committee of business and community leaders honor individuals and organizations that have contributed to the economic success of our city while demonstrating commitment to community wellbeing through social, humanitarian, or environmental leadership. This year's Economic Excellence Award was presented to Cirque du Soleil, coming to Santa Monica for 30 years, this year with the spectacular Totem.
In a city of cultural and technological trendsetters, Santa Monica is making waves around the world. Laurel Rosen, President and CEO of the Santa Monica Chamber presented the welcome address, Mayor, Pam O’Connor, spoke about the current state of Santa Monica and City Manager, Rod Gould gave us a look into the future and talked about what it takes to continue building our 21st Century City.
